Retrofitting: we renovate and enhance old industrial machinery
Retrofitting allows existing sheet metal working machinery to be modernised without completely replacing it. At Elmea, we specialise in retrofitting machine tools dedicated to presses, straighteners and feeding lines. This allows obsolete or idle systems to be recovered by updating electronic components, control software and worn mechanical parts. We replace outdated PLCs with latest-generation systems. We install new electronic controls and digital servo drives that improve precision and repeatability. We refurbish electrical panels and wiring in accordance with current regulations.
Main features of our electrical systems
Upgraded machines become compatible with Transition 4.0, allowing access to tax incentives. We carry out retrofitting directly at the factory to reduce production downtime. From Robecco Sul Naviglio (MI), we operate throughout Italy and Europe, providing technical assistance and spare parts. We guarantee testing and operator training on every renovated system.
- Reduction in investment costs compared to purchasing new machinery
- Increased efficiency and productivity
- Greater safety and full regulatory compliance
- Lower environmental impact thanks to the recovery of existing assets
- Reduced machine downtime
- Enhancement of company assets
Mechanical Retrofitting:
how we operate
The process begins with an assessment of the machinery, based on information provided by the customer or by sending the equipment to our workshop. This is followed by a detailed quote for each machine, after which the work begins.
The main stages include:
- Complete disassembly and thorough cleaning of all components
- Removal of oil, grease, processing residues and old paint
- Repainting of the metalwork
- Overhaul, restoration or replacement of mechanical components
Typical interventions on straightening machines and feeders
- Transmission gears
- Rollers: grinding, polishing or replacement
- Pneumatic system
- Hydraulic system
- Oil and air valves
- Bearings and seals (oil and air)
Typical interventions on unwinding and winding machines
- Transmission gears
- Complete overhaul of the self-centring spindle
- Pneumatic system
- Hydraulic system
- Oil and air valves
- Bearings and seals (oil and air)
Electronic Retrofitting:
updating and safety
When the electrical system is obsolete, we replace it completely, creating systems that comply with current regulations.
During the process, the following are checked and, if necessary, replaced:
- Electrical panels and control panels with push-button panels
- Motors and brushless motors
- Drives and inverters
- On-board wiring with certified cables
- Power supply and valve voltages
Testing and Certification
Upon completion of the work, each machine undergoes mechanical and electronic testing at our workshop.
Following a complete retrofit, we issue new CE Certificates for “Partly Completed Machinery”.
