Idler Roller Straighteners: precision flatness for sheet metal processing
Idler roller straighteners are an essential technical solution for obtaining perfectly flat sheet metal, eliminating coil memory and internal material stresses. Our company designs and manufactures these machines to ensure high-quality results in press feeding lines and laser cutting or punching processes.
Idler roller technology is based on non-motorised cylinders that rotate freely, driven by the passage of the sheet metal itself. This idler roller system consists of two superimposed sets of rollers: the sheet metal is guided through alternating elastic-plastic deformation that “strains” the material. At the entrance, the upper idle rollers apply greater penetration, forcing the idle roller strip to bend alternately. As the material progresses, the amplitude of the bend gradually decreases until, at the exit, a completely flat sheet metal free of deformation is obtained.
Our idle roller straighteners offer concrete advantages:
- No surface scratches: the idle roller conveyor ensures that the material is handled without damaging the finish, even on pre-processed or delicate sheets
- Complete integration: they are positioned downstream of the coil unwinder or upstream of the operating machines, integrating perfectly with motorised straighteners and compact feeding lines
- Customisable configuration: each machine is designed for different strip thicknesses and widths, with independent vertical adjustments at the inlet and outlet
At Elmea, we provide on-site installation, testing and operator training. The idle roller conveyors integrated into our solutions reduce maintenance and increase system reliability, without compromising on the levelling quality required by the most demanding sectors.
